SPOTLIGHT ON: Closed Loop Feedback & Control for Tube-Forming
CATHTIP Magnum RF tipping machines can utilize any of the built-in closed loop control features for force, temperature, or current – allowing razor-accurate tube-forming from delicate R&D batches to robust high-volume runners. Some of the Magnum’s premium components are factory set with built-in closed loop feedback & control for passive optimal performance. Watch how we utilize closed loop control for unparalleled consistency.
CLOSED LOOP FEEDBACK + CONTROL

LEARNING CENTER
There are two types of control loops: open & closed loop control.
OPEN LOOP CONTROL
The control action works independently of the process output.
Example:
The generator percent power heating method outputs the predetermined amount of power regardless of internal component performance.
CLOSED LOOP CONTROL
The control action is dependent on feedback from the value of the process variable.
Example:
1) Temperature heating method loops the measured temperature from the infrared temperature sensor through the RF generator adjusting within the window of the desired setpoint using PID control.
2) Carriage force movement method loops the measured load from the spring-adjusted force transducer and regulates the carriage positioning via the servo-driven linear actuator & user-set working windows.
Why does closed loop control matter for tube-forming processes?
- Ensures high yield
- Maintains consistency
- Preserves quick throughput
